The Lipno Dam was built in 1950-1959 by the overflowing of the upper Vltava river flowing through a dike, which at a length of 285 m and a height of 25 m holds water mass of 4880 ha. Lake Lipno is 44 km long and at its widest point has 16 km.
Fishermen in Lipno mostly fish carp, candy, pike, eel, perch, catfish.
The use of electric motors and small boats with a maximum output of up to 10 kW is permitted on Lipno.
It is permitted to catch deep-water trawling (towing traps behind a moving boat) – only one rod with one permitted trap.
Fishing permits for Lipno lake you can get in the travel agency OTRE in Frymburk, on the main square.

There you have to prove yourselves with your ID or with your passport and also with the Czech fishing permit which is valid for 1, 3 or 10 years.
You can buy 30 days touristic Czech licence for 200 CZK in Horni Plana in the townhall.
The Czech fishing permit you can get only in the local authority in the town Horni Plana (the main square, nr. 54, 382 26 Horni Plana; phone: 00420 380 724 421, email: poplatky@horniplana.cz). Opening hours: Mondays or Wednesdays 8-11 and 12-17 o´clock and Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 8-11 and 12-14 o´clock at office Mr. Kastenmaier.
Don’ t you have any Czech fishing permit? Take following documents with you, please:
- your identity card or your passport
- your fishing permit valid in your country or a copy of your Czech fishing permit from your latest visit
- a citizen of the state which has no contract of legal aid with the Czech Republic have to submit the fishing permit confirmed by means of apostille (e.g. Germany)
